Etiquette Blog
Despite the human need to for face-to-face interaction, there remain those who belittle the importance of manners and try to cast doubt on their relevance.
How we treat others affects us.
Manners have not become irrelevant.  They have only changed to meet the times.
Manners are an art of living, and like all art, undergo changes in style but not in substance.

Asking for a raise can challenge your deeply held beliefs about money.  Some people have a deep seated fear, or even an unconscious aversion to the subject of money.  After all, conversation about money is one of our societal taboos.  However, asking for a raise is part of your career skill set, and your manager expects you to initiate this conversation.

Everybody Works for Money
If you find that you don't like to talk about money, realize there are times when conversations about money are appropriate and necessary.  Why are you asking for a raise?   For example, if you believe you are entitled to a raise out of a sense of injustice, your defensive attitude will not impress your boss. Asking for a salary increase for stellar performance on the job starts with a clear objective and demonstrating confidence in money conversation with your boss.  Prepare to receive a raise by first  making sure you know the going rate for your job and negotiate from there.  Asking for a raise in a business context is not taboo.
